Who we are

Welcome to our small corner of the Internet. Pretty Rare Numismatics made up a family team of coin hobbyists and in our own way, investors. Some younger, some older!

Meet Ed and Christina and our two lovely young men, Christopher and Jacob. We are living in beautiful Port Alberni, BC.

I am also part owner of another family run company here in Port Alberni.  That company is Acoustic Woods Ltd. and we manufacture acoustic guitar soundboards. If you need wood for an acoustic guitar, then hop on over to www.acousticwoods.ca (shameless plug my son said reading this!)

Collecting coins is slowly becoming one of the world’s greatest past times. As more and more people get involved in this lucrative hobby, buying and selling rare coins is becoming all the rage in certain circles, especially as many coins are hard to find. Coin collecting, for kids, is one of the best hobbies for them to get involved with. While the market for rare coins share up and down cycles as many other tangible assets, we believe today is a great time to be a buyer of rare coins. Many coins are now lower in price compared to several years ago.

Coin collecting teaches children about social and political history, introduces them to the design and sculpting arts, and provides them a chance to get in on the hobby that can last them a lifetime.

Christopher took an interest in early French coins. His mom is from France and both the kids speak French. This actually inspired me to take a look at world coins and I'm glad I did! We have some coins from the German Weimar Republic in which the currency hyper inflated. We also have some Third Reich coins. Our coins are providing / retaining quite the awesome history. Jacob helped me with the dragon logo! And he wanted to be slightly different, so he got his first 2000 year old ancient coin this year. Really cool coin.

Quality First

The finest recommendation is that coin collectors invest in quality coins. Buy the best grade you can afford and when it comes time to liquidate your collection, those impressive looking examples will sell for a premium over their lower graded peers.

Rare Coins

The highly super rare coins, the elite coins, are in another realm of reality and are so rarely offered. We are interested in grade and variety rarity with great eye appeal, and general mint rarity with low survival rates. High grade Canadian coins are rarer than one may think. Population reports have been inflated over time with re-submissions.

Eye Appeal

Generally looking for and selling above average eye appeal coins. Above average eye appeal may have the same technical grade however eye appeal is key. Coins that you could take a photo of and hang on your wall and be proud of, are the coins we like to see!
